Clan Blackwolfe held it's first LARP in the Park get together weekend of August 1st. It was successful in that all who were invited to attend did so and had a great time. Clan Blackwolfe has 7 members thus far. Our next step will be to advertise an open LARP in the PARK day hopefully after the Ojai Pirate Faire at the end of Sept.
It occurred to some of us that LARP is not always an accurate label for what we're doing, (combat only at this stage) and perhaps we can get a 'term' started for LARP combat only.. LAFC= Live Action Fantasy Combat? LAMC=Live Action Medieval Combat? MFMC=Medieval Fantasy Mock Combat? LARPC=pronounced Larpsy.. Someone out there probably already has a good one.. the typical definitions I hear used: (and their responses i get)
LARP Combat (what's LARP?) Foam Fighting (how do you fight with "foam"?) Boffing (what is boffing) Larping (so i have to be a character?) Sword Fighting (isn't that dangerous?) and my personal favorite: ...We hang out, and have fun fighting with safe foam weapons, that way everyone can play, there is little gear, and its rare anyone gets injured at all!...And you don't have to have any gear, we have loaner stuff you can use, and no costuming is nescessary... (cool!/...yea...) |

There are three definitions I use to describe Live Combat LARP;
Battlegames Line Course Games World Course Games The Europeans also have Fest Games, multi-LARP/nationalities. Games of this size number in the thousands. Ragnorok has the numbers, but no persistent in-game environment. Sounds like your game is a Battlegame, Blackwolf. Rick |
