Hear Ye! Hear Ye!

Her Royal Majesty, Queen Eowyn of Caledonia, invites all peasants, infidels, and others to partake of the Court's generosity for an evening of fighting, feasting, and fun!

The festivities begin with a tournament, when the Companions of the Court take to the green in a demonstration of martial prowess and magical skill. All guests are welcome to participate in the melee, provided they prove themselves capable (read: safe). Loaner weapons will be provided, and most LARP-safe weapons such as Iron Liege, etc., are also allowed, pending approval by the Grand Knight of the realm.

Following the tournament, Companions and Guests alike will retreat to a nearby manor to feast and to handle the various business of the realm in Queen Eowyn's Court. There's always something interesting happening in Caledonia, so don't miss out!

****

The Artorian Order of the Knights of Pendragon (AOKP) is a fantasy-medieval LARP based loosely on Arthurian myth. This particular chapter of AOKP, the Court of Caledonia, is based in the south LA/Orange County area, and meets 2-3 times a month.

Guests are asked to come dressed in some kind of fantasy/medieval costume if possible. Feel free to invent a character to play for the night or simply "port" in your favorite PC from another game. The world of AOKP is large and mostly unexplored, and we have a magic portal which crosses time and space, so anything is theoretically possible.

The "tournament" (which, in all honesty, will probably be more like a glorified fighter practice) will begin at 5pm and the feast will begin at 7pm.

There is no charge for this event, but donations are always welcome to help cover the cost of food and weapon-making material.

The Court and Feast will take place at 364 N. Magnolia St., Orange, CA 92866.

If you have any questions at all, send me a private message.

Come see what AOKP is all about!

Realms Of Conflict will be holding their game this weekend.

We'd like to leave no later than 1pm on Friday, but we need to know if people can do that so let us know.

We get back Sunday evening.

Chip in for gas if you can.

We make stops for short rests and snacks.

It's free to NPC (normally $10) and only $40 to PC (normally $65) if you ride up with us.

If you need a ride, please post on this board or contact us! :D

There are showers and toilets. There are cabins and perma-tents which are first come, first serve. We will bring a couple of large tents for extra space for folks.

Contact us with questions as to what to bring. It will be hot so be prepared! Lots of action!

Packing List:
(we have weapons and costumes to loan you if you need one)
A sleeping bag and a blanket.
A small pillow.
Extra socks.
Flashlight.
Good boots or shoes (that can get dirty and have some tread - even a bit of water-proofing is good)
AVOID OPEN-SHOES (i.e., sandals, flip flops)
Dark clothing (shirts and pants) and sweatshirts to wear under garb.
Sunscreen
Bug spray (mosquitoes and ticks abound!)
A towel and basic hygiene stuff; deoderant, tooth brush / toothpaste, soap, shampoo etc.

This is a beginner to intermediate level fighter practice. The term fighter practice was coined decades ago by one of the first LARPs, the IFGS. A class-based system, their "fighter" class inspired the term (combat practice is a more generalized term that is being used more nowadays).

At this practice, we teach the basics; how to use boffer, latex, or hybrid LARP weapons in combat and how combats play out in a Live Combat LARP. The safe and consistent use of these weapons is of primary importance to the practice. Additionally, skill levels begin to improve almost immediately when practices are attended on a regular basis.

Terminology that is used in games, from oog (out of game) calls to actual in-game mechanic calls are covered; we try to use different systems calls in a manner that is not confusing to the newcomer
We run many different form of combat games to help simulate situations. We give advice to to help improve game play on all levels - from how to survive from a player's perspective to being an effective opponent.

Some basics information regarding playing out roles in games are addressed; my perspective is that it comes naturally to most. In the near future, we will be compiling a composite system from the systems being used in the area; and create mini-characters to use in small story arcs and encounters. These can be used in the various combat games we run at this practice, and more heavily used in the more advanced practice we plan on running in the near future.

All are welcome, and as many questions that you can think of. We do have a short supply of weapons to loan out (we run weapon-building days to help everyone build their own basic sword), and have Iron Liege gear on hand to gawk at. :)

AGENDA

we don't really have one, but if we did this is what it would look like:

6:30-7 pm: Arrival, basically just hang out untill everyone, or most everyone shows up.

7-8: Warm up, probably play a game of "Elsinore battle".

8-whenever: play a few different games, hang out, and fight.

Games:

Elsinore Battle.

-> each person starts with a basic shorter weapon, and extra weapons are scattered on the field, when you die you respawn at your spawn point, on a 3 count. you can pick up any weapon on the field, but when you die, you may only take 1 with you to respawn.

Gladiatus.

-> short gladiator weapons only, fight to the death.

Other.

->whatever the hell else we come up with.

7pm-9pm (or later, depending on everyone's energy, most Meetups have lasted until 10pm)

7-8 Starbucks
8-10 We typically move the meeting to a place to eat; Round Table Pizza, Souplantation, Lucilles or just making a run to the grocery store and heading back to our place. There is no particular place.

Depending on whether we get new people to introduce LARP to or not, the conversations wander - sometimes about someone's player character, a game someone was at, etc. If we do, I usually start by launching into a history lesson; sometimes followed up by game mechanic, basic definitions, our local Calendar, our programs, and how to get into a game.

We do often have conversations of what the LARP Alliance is working on in terms of strengthening and growing the hobby, locally and abroad. Many of the people that attend the meetup are Board members on the Alliance, or members of a subcommittee.

Call me at 951) 809-1091 if you need directions or to verify what restaurant we might have moved to.

Any suggestions for future locations or days, please email us via http://www.LARPSpace.com (you all are members, right?)
